In July 2010, the Ancram Town Board approved the plans and budget for a new highway garage.  By referendum, the town voters approved the project in August.  Work began in September, but after waiting and hoping for a new garage for many years, there was understandably some healthy skepticism at the Highway Department about when exactly their new garage might be finished.

Architect Joe Iuviene came up with the great idea of adding onto the existing garage to create a larger footprint. Here you see that change in process with the “old” garage on the right, and the beginnings of the new garage on the left.

The finished town garage came in ahead of schedule and under budget-- how often does that happen?  The highway crew moved into its new space in early December, glad to be under cover for the winter. Town Supervisor Art Bassin credits Jim MacArthur and his team with saving the town between $50,000 and $75,000 by contributing their skills to the construction.  Thanks to all involved for a job well done.
